There appears to be some confusion in some of the tag offices as to the question on whether people will receive a refund if we don’t achieve the 1000 pre-commitments on the spay/neuter tag by 31 October 2008. The state does not refund their money as it is up to the agency sponsoring the tag. In this case it is the Alabama Veterinary Medical Association and they WILL refund money if requested if we miss the mark on the 1000 order requirement. I would ask all of you to please take the time and make sure your local tag offices know this as we have been made aware of some people not pre-purchasing the tags because they did not think they would get their money back if this isn’t successful. Please see the note below from Dr. Franz, DVM, Executive Director, ALVMA to reassure everyone. And don’t forget to go to your local tag office and pre-order your spay/neuter tag – I have !

The Alabama Veterinary Medical Foundation (ALVMF) received approval from the Alabama Department of Revenue for individuals to begin placing orders for the Spay/Neuter license plate.

The cost of the tag is the standard $50 like other specialized tags. $41.25 of each $50 sale goes to the Foundation to assist low-income families (those who receive Medicaid) with the cost of spaying/neutering their pets.

1,000 tags must be presold between November 1, 2007, and November 1, 2008, for the program to be implemented.

HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:

1) Go to your local county license plate issuing official's office.
2) Complete a "Commitment to Purchase" application. (Keep your copy)
3) Pay the $50 fee. (Keep your receipt)

You will use your current license tag until the SPAY/NEUTER plate is produced (remember: at least 1,000 have to be presold). The Foundation will notify you when the plates are available in your county license plate office.

HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO TAKE WITH YOU TO GET YOUR PLATE:(Go to the same office where you completed the "Commitment to Purchase" form)

1) Your copy of the "Commitment to Purchase" form (can't get your plate without this)
2) Your receipt for the $50 (can't get your plate without this)
3) Your current standard tag
