LATEST NEWS & UPDATES All,
The ASPCA is looking for immediate help for a situation in Mississippi. Clarksdale, MS (northwest corner of MS) has an animal control facility that tried to operate as a no-kill facility. Their capacity is for about 60 dogs and a few cats and they have 382 dogs and 100 cats. The situation has gotten out of hand and the facility is likely to be condemned in the next couple of days by the city so the animals must go NOW.
They are looking for LICENSED shelters/groups who can take a minimum of TEN dogs to help get them removed from this situation. There are NO little dogs in this - all are medium to large in size - your typical shelter dog. They are giving rabies vaccinations and health certificates but that is it. The receiving agency will be responsible for everything else after that to include normal vaccinations, the spay or neuter, heartworm checks, etc.
They are also looking for people who would like to volunteer to transport dogs to Broward County, Florida as the Broward Co shelter said they can take about 40 or so dogs but they need help getting there. Need you to use your vehicle and ASPCA will reimburse gas and hotel charges.
Atlanta Humane and Tampa Humane are taking on a number of these dogs so tremendous thanks to them. Atlanta may also be taking on about 15 cats.
They are evaluating cats and have found a lot of illness, so not sure if they will be able to send too many cats anywhere. Just call and ask the contact if you are interested in cats.
They will NOT release onesy's and twosy's! You must be able to take at least TEN!
Anna Ware is the ASPCA Rep on the ground and you will have to call her to find out more and make arrangements to help. Anna can be reached at 404-483-4833.
