LATEST NEWS & UPDATES I wanted to let all of you know about the Blount County Animal Rescue operation that happened over the weekend. The HSUS Emergency Services Team deployed to Alabama to assist the Blount County Sheriff’s Office in accepting over 100 animals from a hoarding case. Volunteer animal handlers from Chilton, Jefferson and Etowah Counties were on the scene, where temperatures were really frigid. The Greater Birmingham Humane Society very graciously allowed us to set up a temporary animal shelter on their property and their Veterinarian served as medical director. She in turn, recruited other Alabama veterinarians to assist. Shelter volunteers came from Shelby, Blount, and Jefferson County. NDART responders that came in support of Emergency services were from Florida and Tennessee. Everyone worked so hard and by Friday night, all 118 animals were safe and warm. They were examined by veterinarians, vaccinated, wormed and on their way to placement partners by Sunday evening. To support the volunteers, the GBHS board and auxiliary provided warm meals throughout the long weekend. The commitment and hard work of all the devoted volunteers is what made this happen. I am so proud and thankful. On behalf of HSUS Emergency Services Team, and Alabama animals in need, I am grateful, very grateful.
